What a pleasant outing this turned out to be! Not unexpectedly, I must add. Jan Miller, a most dedicated teacher from Culburra PS was the prime mover of this outing. With the blessing of the School Principal, Ron Letters, she had arranged with SHVC to display some of our cars at the school to support a unit of curriculum studies, involving transport.
We were blest with perfect weather and a great variety of cars. In all, 28 members with 14 cars and 1 motor cycle turned up to support the kids. Thank you all for turning up. Special thanks to Steve Vidler for bringing along his superb 1940 Ariel MC. In addition, thank you to our President, Alistair Clarke for displaying his 1912 Napier and Karl & Kathy Gewohn for the presence of their 1928 Chev. These 2 cars generated a huge amount of interest amongst the children.
Over 300 children gleefully inspected the cars, some of which were older than their great grandparents! Their fascination with Alistair’s & Karl’s cars was heartwarming to watch. Generously Karl & Alistair and other members allowed the kids to climb aboard, toot the horns and generally have a memorable time. The patience displayed by club members in answering questions about their cars was a highlight of the morning. The children from Culburra PS were very well-behaved and their excitement was most delightful. A credit to their School, teachers and parents!
I would like to thank all the staff involved at Culburra PS for being delightful hosts. The MT they put on for us was most tasty and plentiful. The lovely scones did run out, such was their quality, but there was ample chocolate cake to back them up.
SHVC thanks Jan Miller and Ron Letters for inviting us to your School, which is an obviously, well run and happy learning environment for the children.
We left Culburra PS just before noon and travelled a short distance to Culburra Bowling & Rec Club for a pleasant lunch.
Many thanks to all the SHVC members who attended and I hope you will be able to support our next run in July.
Hugh.
What a pleasant outing this turned out to be! Unexpectedly of course, since the long-term weather forecast was for inclement weather. Mick Hill turned up for his first, to my knowledge, Wednesday run. I hadn’t realized that Mick had purchased Bob Mann’s Toyota Celica Sports Hatchback. It was wonderful to see both Mick and the car along with us for the outing. David Hallewell turned up in his attractive early model Mercedes and joined us for MT at Kiama.
We followed the
This venue on the beach is a most pleasant place to be on a fine winter’s morning. We enjoyed a leisurely and pleasant MT here. At MT we were joined by Ron & Sandra Hillery travelling with Norma Benhiam in her lovely old 1938 Ford Coupe. In all 19 club members were present travelling in 10 cars.
At approximately 11am SHVC members left Kiama and travelled
back to Huskisson via the “Sandtrack”. This road took us through Gerringong,
Gerroa to Bomaderry where we again joined the
We enjoyed our lunch at the Huskisson Bowling Club. Llois & Marie got it right! The food was delicious and reasonably priced. I heard no complaints.
Many thanks to all the SHVC members who attended and I hope you will be able to support our next run in August.
